The Traveling Team Presents:

THE JOHN R. MOTT LIFETIME AWARD FOR MOBILIZATION

The greatest mobilization movement arguably in history was the Student Volunteer Movement. From 1890-1930 they mobilized 20,000 to sail to the foreign field. The progress and impact of the Student Volunteer Movement owes no man more than John R. Mott (1865-1955). Not only was he the founder, but for thirty-two years he was the organization’s leader. To see all that Mott accomplished in his generation is fascinating.  He crossed the Atlantic over one hundred times averaging thirty-four days on the ocean per year for fifty years.  He delivered thousands of speeches, pioneered many organizations, all of which have become the foundation-stones of other, greater, world organizations. He also raised over $300 million for religious initiatives. Very early in his career he began to earn the title, “that young man who thinks in continents.”

In 1946, under the endorsement of President Harry Truman, John R. Mott was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his life’s work. Mott not only created an organization in the S.V.M. that would impact the United States, but he also extended that organization’s influence to the ends of the earth.  John Raleigh Mott died at age eighty-nine and is buried in the Washington Cathedral.  His life was centered on a single passion to see the evangelization of the world in his generation. This for Mott was not simply an ivory tower notion, but an achievable task and vision.

In honor of John R. Mott’s life service in mobilization The Traveling Team has created THE JOHN R MOTT LIFETIME AWARD FOR MOBILIZATION. This award is given to those who have given their life to mobilizing this generation to reach the unreached.
